She was born September 2, 1917, in Cleveland, Ohio, a daughter of the late Nickolas and Providenza (Puleo) Battaglia. Josephine was a member of St. Peter of the Fields Parish. She worked for many years at the Farmer’s Market in Ravenna with her family. There, she was able to share her talent for baking, especially cinnamon rolls and apple pies, with many people throughout the area.
She is survived by her brother: Tony (Maylene) Battaglia; her sisters: Ann Zampelli and Gloria Vitantonio; sister-in-law: Marjorie Battaglia; also survived by many nieces, nephews, Godchildren, great-nieces, and great-nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband Virgil D. Aston in 2000. Also preceded by her brothers: Angelo (Josephine) Battaglia and Paul L. Battaglia, and her sisters: Mary (Joe) DiMauro, Eleanor (Andy) Levitsky, and Amelia (Vito) Giuletto.
Her last days were spent at the homes of Godchild Angie and Jim Brown and Clara Minadeo. Many special thanks to Hospice, especially Lisa, Rachel, Karen, Stacy, and Carolina who made her final days easier for her. Special thanks to Kathleen and Gracie who made her day.
Friends will be received Tuesday, June 1, 2010, from 2-4 and 6-8 PM at the Wood-Kortright-Borkoski Funeral Home, 703 E. Main St., Ravenna. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Reverend David Misbrener on Wednesday at 11:00 AM at St. Peter of the Fields Church. Interment will follow at Standing Rock Cemetery.
