He was born January 7, 1943, in Mantua, Ohio, to parents Leonard N. and Thelma A. (Rogers) Veon. Lee graduated from Crestwood High School in 1961. Lee had a long career as a machinist with Gougler Industries in Kent and retired from Automated Packing Systems in Streetsboro. Dedicated to supporting his family, he worked hard his entire career with few complaints.
After retirement, Lee enjoyed spending time in his wood working shop where he made coin banks, furniture, and gifts for his family, friends, and his church.
As a father, Lee rarely missed his children’s extracurricular activities. He attended hundreds of baseball, basketball, football, band, and choir events. He also attended many of his grandkid and great grandkid’s events whenever possible. He was a leader, mentor, advisor, and friend to many people. Lee could always be relied on to share his wisdom, repair machinery, or lend a hand regardless of the task.
Lee was a dedicated and faithful member of the Rootstown United Methodist Church. He was a faithful Christian and followed God’s word; he was very generous with his time and skills and was always quick to help those in need. Lee dedicated countless hours to the church mowing grass, making repairs, or building special equipment for various programs. Lee attempted to make all his time, money, and woodworking donations in secrecy as not to gain recognition.
Lee is survived by his beloved wife of 60 years Janet L. (Beck) Veon, who he married September 8, 1962. He is also survived by his children: Shelly (Mark) Hamilton, Rodney (Karen) Veon, and Neal (Olympia) Veon; his grandsons: Nate, Josh, Luke, Nick, Jake, Kyle, and Isaac, and 9 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his siblings: Tom (Nicki) Veon, Bernie Veon, and Sherry (Wayne) Klepper.
Lee was preceded in death by his parents, his daughter Christine Veon, his brothers Lauren and Richard Veon, and his sister Shirley Moore.
Friends and family will be received Wednesday, November 9, 2022, from 11:30 AM – 1:00 PM at the Rootstown United Methodist Church, where funeral services will be officiated by Lee’s grandson, Pastor Nick Veon at 1:00 PM. Private burial will take place at Homeland Cemetery.
