He was born August 30, 1957, Ravenna, Ohio, to parents Huey and Nettie (Truax) Scarlett. Lonnie worked as a maintenance supervisor at Kent State University for the past 17 years. He was also a longtime member of the Portage County Knife Collectors Club.
Lonnie was an active member of the Portage Community Chapel. He loved music, especially playing the guitar and singing. Lonnie often shared his talents as a member of the church choir and through different outreach programs.
He was an avid Cleveland Indians fan and loved history. His interest in history led to many weekend trips antiquing with his wife and going to yard sales. Lonnie always had a passion for reading and love of Westerns, particularly anything with John Wayne. He was also a Civil War buff, and loved his family trips to Gettysburg. In addition to Gettysburg, Lonnie also enjoyed family vacations to North Carolina and Myrtle Beach.
Lonnie was quite the handyman, and even built his own home. He also enjoyed riding his yellow Mustang and traveling to car shows. Above all, Lonnie was a devoted husband and loving father, who was always proud of “His Girls.”
Lonnie is survived by his wife Darlene (Lynch) Scarlett, whom he married 39 years ago on July 20th, as well as their daughters: Heather Scarlett and her husband Aditya Prahalad and Ashley Scarlett and her fiancé Zach Mullee. His memory will also be cherished by his mother-in-law Betty Lynch and his siblings: Paula Morrison, Jeanne Benson, Terry (Norma) Scarlett, Jim (Sue) Scarlett, and Shane (Jean) Scarlett, as well as generations of loving nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Lonnie was preceded in death by his parents, his brothers Joey and Denny Scarlett, his uncle Sonny Truax, as well as his father-in-law Ralph Lynch. He will rejoice in seeing them in God’s glory.
Friends will be received Thursday, September 15, 2016, from 4:00 – 7:00 PM at the Portage Community Chapel, 6490 State Route 14, Ravenna, where funeral services will be held on Friday at 11:00 AM with Pastors Brent Joy, Mark Miller, and Barry Shahan officiating.
