She was born October 26, 1926, in Charlestown Township, Ohio, to parents Charles and Alice (Richards) Griffith. Marcene graduated from Charlestown High School and Bohecker’s Business College. She soon met and married Peter John Sorboro and they started their family of 10 children. Marcene retired from Kent State University.
Marcene was one of 14 children. Her stories of growing up on a farm will be memories in our family that we will cherish forever. She and her sister Joanne Butts were the last surviving siblings. We will miss the sound of them talking and giggling for hours at a time and there were always great stories that made us laugh! Joanne will deeply miss her sister Marcene, and all of us that were lucky enough to be loved by her.
Marcene was a devout Catholic and member of Immaculate Conception Parish. She volunteered on the bereavement luncheon committee for many years. Most of all, she loved her family. She took pride in being able to provide for them as well as cook the large Sunday family dinners. She was at her happiest when she was surrounded by family, hosting a large event or holiday gathering.
Marcene is survived by her children: Nancy Havener, Cynthia Tully, Rebecca Beechum, Mary (Phil) Porter, Dominic (Leslie) Sorboro, Mike (Malinda) Sorboro, and Judy Johnson, her son-in-law Matt Collins, along with all of her loving 19 grandchildren and her 20 great-grandchildren.
Marcene is preceded in death by her husband Peter Sorboro, her son P.J. Sorboro, and her daughters Amy Collins and Gina Sorboro.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Reverend William Kraynak on Thursday, December 2, 2021, at 11:00 AM at Immaculate Conception Church, 409 W Main St., Ravenna. Private burial will take place at St. Mary Cemetery.
