Born in Rootstown, Ohio on October 31, 1931, to Mary and Peter Baber, Mary Ann Pletzer was a proud and active lifelong resident of Rootstown.
Her legacy will be cherished by many: Son David (Arden), daughter Susan Wemmer (Patrick), grandchildren Scott, Allison Willems (Chad), Kain, Celeste and Ryan and great grandchildren Starla, Daisy, Winnie, Tysen and Jace, her sister-in-law, Barbara Butch and nieces, nephews, cousins and good friends.
Preceded in death was her beloved husband of almost 64 years, Bill Pletzer, her parents Mary and Peter Baber, her brothers John and Peter Jr. and her brothers-in-law, Bob Pletzer and Don Butch.
Mary Ann was a traditionalist who loved heritage and family. Always working in her colorful flower gardens and meticulous yard, Mary Ann loved being outside. She was a stay-at-home mother who volunteered at the school, library, hospital and well-child clinic. She was active in PTA, Jr. Civic Club, Beta Sorosis and Jr. Tuesday Club. Bill and Mary Ann loved traveling. Their adventurous spirit took them to all 50 states and 6 continents. They were always anticipating their next trip. She enjoyed playing cards and was an avid fan of Ohio State, the Guardians, Browns and especially the Cavs.
As a loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother and caring friend, her greatest love was just time together with family and friends. A special thank you to her wonderful neighbors who helped her in her last years. Her faith, her God, her family and her friends were important in her way of life. Mary Ann’s gorgeous, white bouffant hair and Betty White persona will be forever treasured in our memories. Cremation has already taken place per her wishes. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in her name to the Coleman Center Foundation or Animal Protective League.
Family will receive friends at the Wood-Kortright-Borkoski Funeral Home, 703 E. Main St., Ravenna, on Monday, July 27, 2026, from 11am until the memorial service beginning at 12pm. She will be inurned along side her husband at Homeland Cemetery.
