

He was born April 20, 1935, in Bonnie, West Virginia, a son of the late Forrest Jackson and Myrtle Gay (Shaver) Westfall. Melvin worked at many places throughout the years, including Thomas Asphalt, JD Williamson, and most recently Mullins Tree Service. He attended the Atwater United Methodist Church and was a member of Laborers’ Local 894 Union.
Melvin was a true outdoorsman. He enjoyed farming, hunting, tending to his beagles, and was a former member of the Portage County Coon Hunters Association.
Melvin is survived by his beloved wife Yvonda M. (Shaver) Westfall. The couple would have celebrated their 54th wedding anniversary on June 23, 2010. He is also survived by his children: Donna (Mike) Griffin of Crawford, NE, Marilyn (Dennis) Eichler of Hartville, Vickie (Steve) Hermann of Atwater; grandchildren: Savannah (fiancée Mike Knapp) Griffin, Sarah and Cheyenne Griffin, Greg (Tiffany) Eichler, Matt and Valerie Eichler, and Bobby, Jeff, Tony, and Leah Hermann; great-grandchildren: Adam and Kelsey Eichler, and Quentin Knapp; sister: Susan Scott and brother: James Westfall both of Exchange, WV.
In addition to his parents, Melvin was preceded in death by his brother Forrest Westfall.
Friends will be received Thursday, May 13, 2010, from 2-4 and 6-8 PM at the Wood-Kortright-Borkoski Funeral Home, 703 E. Main St., Ravenna, where funeral services will be officiated by Pastor C. William Nicewarner on Friday at 11:00 AM. Interment will follow at Atwater Cemetery.
