

Mildred Hilgert, age 93, passed away on March 19th at home with her loving family around her. She was born in Randolph on January 24, 1917 to John D. & Louise (Wise) Kline. She was a devout Catholic and life-long member of St. Joseph Parish in Suffield. Mildred was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt and good friend. She married John Hilgert in 1939 and together they owned & operated Hilgert’s Berry Farm for 40 years. They enjoyed playing euchre, dancing, hosting many fish fries, family gatherings and holiday feasts. Millie made a quilt for each of her 9 children and a wedding quilt for each of her 17 grandchildren and a baby quilt was made for each grandchild’s family. She enjoyed baking, gardening, her flowers and spending time with her family and friends. Her selfless giving will be missed by all whose lives she touched. She was preceded in death by her husband John of 53 years, also her daughter-in-law Karen Hilgert, sons-in-law Jack Garman & Michael May. She is survived by daughters Dorothy Garman, Dolores (Dwain) Heldreth, Mary Ann Hilgert, Martha Hilgert, Kathy (Bill) Adelman, Bernice May, Connie (Tim) Cole and sons Robert (Gladys) Hilgert and James (Betty) Hilgert, 17 grandchildren & 29 great-grandchildren. The family would like to express a special thank you to the VNS of Portage County.
Friends will be received Wednesday, March 24, 2010, from 4-8 PM at the Wood-Kortright-Borkoski Funeral Home, 703 E. Main St., Ravenna. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Reverend Ed Wieczorek on Thursday at 11:30 AM at St. Joseph Church in Suffield. Interment will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery.
