Nick Howard Roberto, age 90, passed away on August 23, 2026. Born on April 17, 1936, in Ravenna, Ohio, Nick was the son of Americo and Anna (Laurito) Roberto. He was also the eighth of nine siblings and beloved “Uncle Nick” to 26 nephews and nieces, plus their spouses, children and grandchildren. As a teenager, Nick balanced school and work, as he contributed long days and early mornings helping his family on the “Creekside Berry Farm.” On the farm, he formed the work ethic that would remain a constant throughout his years. Those who knew Nick came to enjoy his kind heart, deep curiosity, love of nature, and sense of humor. Nick especially brought a smile to the faces of his nieces and nephews who he always found time to tease as they traipsed after him.
Nick lived a life of service, serving his country in both the United States Army and Peace Corps. His sense of service and love of the outdoors led to a career with the United States Forestry Service, a path well suited to his steady commitment and thoughtful care for the world around him.
Away from work, Nick found deep enjoyment in the outdoors, especially bird watching and gardening—simple, enduring pleasures that reflected his patient attention and appreciation for nature. Above all, he enjoyed being with his family, valuing time together and the quiet strength of presence more than any grand display. His nephews and nieces remember countless days when he patiently shared a guiding hand or an encouraging word - whether about baseball, fishing, gardening, birding or anything else that interested that nephew or niece.
Nick is survived by his sisters Laura Marek and Mary Ellen Peterson, along with generations of loving nieces and nephews. Nick was preceded in death by his parents, and his siblings: Valerie Allen-Cauley, Spartico Roberto, Mable Lorelli, Elizabeth Jedlicka, Marcus Aurelius Roberto, and Jim Roberto.
Friends and family will be received on Saturday, September 5, 2026, from 10:00 am to 11:00 AM at the Wood-Kortright-Borkoski Funeral Home, 703 E Main St, Ravenna. A Graveside Remembrance Service at Maple Grove Cemetery will begin at 11:30 AM. Interment will follow.
