The world has lost a unique and free spirit. Nicklas G. “Nic” Hemrick, age 65 of Rootstown, passed away Friday, June 29, 2018, after a courageous fight with cancer. Some people may think that Nic lost the battle with cancer, but he actually won by being an inspiration to everyone who knew him.
Nic was born January 27, 1953, in Ravenna, Ohio, to parents Joseph and Doris (Hartson) Hemrick. He graduated from Ravenna High School in 1971, grabbed his guitar and his dog, and traveled to California in his van. He later returned to the area and worked for 29 years at Owens-Corning in Tallmadge until his retirement. He then worked for a few years at Miles Farmers Market.
Nic was person who enjoyed his privacy. But he also enjoyed playing Bocce at the Italian American Society in Ravenna. He loved going for long rides on his bike, putting thousands of miles on it each summer. Nic always kept a deep fondness for his family, especially his grandchildren.
Nic is survived by his beloved wife Marilyn Nash-Hemrick whom he married April 21, 2004. He is also survived by his daughter Jonelle (Mike) Scarl, grandchildren: Sydney and Mikey, sister Chari Hurd, brothers Joe and Ralph (Joanie) Hemrick, as well as many loving nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Nic was preceded in death by his father Joseph Hemrick, mother and step-father Doris and Stanley Hemrick, and his brother Clyde Pifer.
Special thanks to all of Nic’s dear friends and family for their support given throughout his illness, and to the wonderful staff of Dr. Nemunaitis at the Cleveland Clinic.
Friends and family will be received Thursday, July 12, 2018, from 4:00 – 6:00 PM at the Wood-Kortright-Borkoski Funeral Home, 703 E. Main St., Ravenna, with a memorial service beginning at 6:00 PM. Following the service, everyone is invited to the Italian American Society, 644 S. Chestnut St., to continue celebrating Nic’s life and have a memorial Bocce tournament.
