Patty Arleen Nothstein, age 83, passed away peacefully September 26, 2026, at Holy Family Hospice in Cleveland. She was born February 25, 1943, in Elbert, West Virginia, to parents Sydney M. and Nina (Lang) Stevenson. She was named after the pastor who married her Mom and Dad. She loved sharing memories of growing up with her cousins in the mountains of West Virginia.
In her earlier years, she worked at Wise’s Fashion Shop in Berea. She would spend her lunch hours many days window shopping at the jewelry store next door. The owner of this jewelry store set Patty up on a blind date with another one of her customers, and 2 months after this Blind date they would marry. Patty was married to her husband, Loyal Nothstein, for over 50 years. She was a dedicated wife and loving mother and grandmother. Her family was absolutely her world.
After Loyal retired, they enjoyed setting up at flea markets and owned Grumpy’s Books and Records in Akron. They were active members of the Portage County Rabbit Club for many years. In everything they did together their kindness and compassion allowed them to make lasting impressions with many people that quickly became friends.
Patty read her Bible daily and loved sharing the Good word and Bible studies with her family and friends. If you were going through life challenges, she could quickly let you know what chapter and verses to read that would be comforting. She was a former member of the Stow and Ravenna Churches of the Nazarene.
Patty was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Loyal, her son Ralph Nothstein, and her brother Sydney Stevenson Jr. She is survived by her daughter Cathern (David Dey) Peterson, her grandchildren: Michael (Ashley) Pratt, Matthew (fiancé Alyssa) Peterson, and Cody (Kayla) Fletcher, as well as her great-grandchildren: Serenity Peterson and Levi Loyal Savich. She was excited to meet her newest Great Grandson who is due in February 2027.
Patty’s family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to Holy Family Hospice in Parma for their compassionate care not only given to Patty but to David and Cathy also.
Friends and family will be received Saturday, October 17, 2026, from 11:00 AM – 12:00 PM with a memorial service officiated by Pastor Tracy Ogden-Johnson at 12:00 PM at the Wood-Kortright-Borkoski Funeral Home, 703 E Main St., Ravenna.
