Paul was born in Cleveland, Ohio on July 11, 1928 to parents Leo and Edith (Schaff) Basel. Paul had graduated from Bowling Green State University with a degree in medical technology. He enjoyed a successful career at Robinson Memorial Hospital as a medical technologist overseeing the lab and retired after 30 years of service. He was a member of Immaculate Conception Church and the Portage County Garden Club where he attained Master Gardener status. Paul loved working outside, landscaping and growing vegetables and flowers. In retirement, he traveled extensively throughout the U.S. and all over the world.
Paul is survived by his sons Leo (Maureen Macphee) Basel, George Basel and Robert (Jenni) Basel. He also leaves his grandchildren Paul (Taryn) Basel, Heidi (Mike) Cook, Zachary Basel, Bobby (Caitlyn) Basel and his great-grandchildren Ethan and Hailey Basel. Surviving also are his sisters Barbara (Joe) Kralavick and Wilma Basel.
Paul was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Jerome Basel and his daughter-in-law Robin Basel.

Mass of Christian Burial, officiated by Rev. William Kraynak, will be held on Tuesday, March 3, 2020 at 10am at the Immaculate Conception Church, 409 W. Main St., Ravenna. Interment at St. Mary’s Cemetery will follow.
