Richard was born September 21, 1921 to parents Harry and Irene Bower at their farm in Randolph. In 1931 they moved to a farm in Streetsboro where he resided until 1946. He was a farmer by trade and in 1942 moved to Thompson’s Dairy farm where he worked as a hired hand. He married Florence Logan on July 24th, 1943 and was married 54 years until her passing in 1997. He and his wife Florence moved to the 146 acre farm on St. Rt. 18 in Rootstown where he worked until that farm was sold in 2003. It was then that he moved to his present residence on Tallmadge Rd. in Rootstown. He lived in Rootstown most of his life. Richard loved farming and always loved putting in a large garden. He thoroughly enjoyed square dancing and attending the Portage County fair.
Richard is survived by his children; Bill (Dora) Bower, Carol (Carl) Telshaw of Melbourne, Fla., Denise (Rick) Siciliano, and Debra (David) Cross. He is survived also by his beloved long time friend and companion; Donna Hughes.
He is also survived by his grandchildren; Melissa Tracy, Billy Bower, Rick Bower, Todd Blasens, Shelly Butcher, Jeff Mix, Sarah Cross, Greg Poling, Nicole Poling, Allison Cross and Rachel Cross. Surviving also are his great-grandchildren; Brandi Davis, Brittani Davis, Kayla Varner, Cody Hamrick, Dylan Bower, Mikayla Butcher and Blake Bower. Richard also leaves his great-great grandchildren; Christopher Kotkowski, Camryn Kotkowski, Michael Kotkowski, Damian Pfieffer and Paige White.
Richard leaves also his brother’s Harry (Stub) Bower and Tom Bower and sisters; Dorothy Farnsworth and Betty Tilden.
Richard was predeceased by his parents and his wife Florence. Also preceding him were his brothers; Harold and Robert, sisters; Ruth Dillon and Mary Mika, granddaughter; Kimberly Blasens and great-grandchild; Chamvion Smith.
Family will receive visitors on Wednesday, July 7, 2010 from 6:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. at the Wood-Kortright-Borkoski Funeral Home, 703 E. Main St., Ravenna where funeral services will be conducted on Thursday, July 8, 2010 at 11:00 A.M. with Pastor Scott Hindel officiating. Entombment will follow at Grandview Memorial Park.
