

He was born March 20, 1946, in Cleveland, Ohio, a son of the late Frank Vincent Klimczak and Lucille (Riedel) Smith. Richard was a veteran of the US Army proudly serving in Vietnam. He later joined VFW Post 1055 in Ravenna. Richard retired from the GM Lordstown Plant after 30 years of service. He was an avid fisherman who also enjoyed golfing, dining out, and spending time with his family.
He is survived by his children: Dawn Schmertmann of DeLeon Springs, Florida and Richard (April) Klimczak of Suffield; grandchildren: Tara (Trent) Tedder, Krysten Beal, Michael Beal, Alec Klimczak, and Vince Klimczak; great-grandson: Colton Beal; as well as his siblings: Vern Lyons of Garrettsville, Lee Mulvaney of Mantua, Helen (Dennis) Kral of Mantua, Ken Smith of Lake Milton, Lucy (Greg) Moore of Rootstown, and Billy (Sonia) Smith of Ravenna.
Friends will be received Tuesday, April 16, 2013, from 6:00 – 8:00 PM at the Wood-Kortright-Borkoski Funeral Home, 703 E. Main St., Ravenna, where funeral services will be held on Wednesday at 11:00 AM. Interment will follow with military honors provided by the US Army and VFW Post 1055 at Homeland Cemetery in Rootstown.
