He was born May 15, 1917, in Akron, Ohio, a son of the late Lucio and Santina Cianchetti of Villetta Barrea, Italy. Robert graduated from North High School in Akron and served in the U.S. Army during WWII. He spent time stationed in Japan and also served in the Army Reserve, retiring with the rank of Lieutenant Colonel after 28 years of service.
For 42 years, Robert worked with the Fred W. Albrecht Grocery Co., later Acme, and was the manager of the Ravenna store for 25 years. On February 11, 1943, he married Minnie Merle Anthony in Columbus, Georgia, and later moved to northeast Ohio to raise their family. The couple was very active in Town and Country and the Western Whirlers Square Dance Clubs. Mr. Cianchetti was a member of Immaculate Conception Parish, the Sons of Italy, and a past member of Kiwanis. He enjoyed gardening and fishing, and was proud of his family.
Survivors include his children: Robert J. (Melody) Cianchetti, Jr. of Madrid, Spain, Paul A. (Dianne) Cianchetti, Sr. of Cincinnati, Philip T. (Marcia) Cianchetti of Tallmadge, Laura (Andre) Fortin of Enumclaw, Washington, and Mark A. (Mary Jo) Cianchetti of St. George Island, Florida. He is also survived by 14 loving grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren, and his sister Della Vargo of Cuyahoga Falls.
Robert was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 68 years Minnie Merle Cianchetti on February 19, 2011. He was also preceded by his son John L. Cianchetti, his granddaughter Amy Cianchetti, his sisters Mary Nolan, Jean DiNuoscio, Helen Cianchetti, and his brothers Issidore Cianchetti and Vincent Cianchetti.
Friends will be received Tuesday, December 11, 2012, from 5-8 PM at the Wood-Kortright-Borkoski Funeral Home, 703 E. Main St., Ravenna. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Reverend John Madden on Wednesday at 11:00 AM at Immaculate Conception Church, 409 W. Main St., Ravenna. Interment will follow at St. Mary Cemetery in Ravenna.
