Bob was born November 2, 1930, in Akron, Ohio, to parents Earl and Edith (Blankensop) Herndon. He worked as a truck mechanic for Snyder Motor Freight and Priority Freight Systems until his retirement in 1992. Bob was definitely a “Jack-of-all-trades”, having remodeled his home, built his own garage, and could always be found tinkering with something or working on cars. He also enjoyed chatting with neighbors, mowing his lawn and watching the birds with his beloved wife Shirley Herndon. Sadly, she passed away on July 6, 2015.
Also preceding Bob in death are his son Brian Herndon, his parents and his siblings: Earl and James Herndon and Mary Pigg.
Family always came first in Bob’s life, and he was always willing to lend a hand. He is survived by daughters: Valerie (Frank) Vitarella and Vicki (Lee) Lehman. Surviving also are his grandchildren: Robert Vitarella, Matthew (Megan) Vitarella, Lauren Lehman, Brittany (Martin) Gerke, and great-grandchildren: Maria, Emma, and Theodore Vitarella, Jayden and Mason Vyse, and Arya and Ronald Singleton.
Friends will be received Saturday, October 22, 2016, from 10:00 AM until 12:00 PM at the Wood-Kortright-Borkoski Funeral Home, 703 E. Main St., Ravenna, where funeral services will follow at 12:00 PM with Reverend Laurie Metzko officiating. Interment will follow at Maple Grove Cemetery.
