Robert ("BOB") was born on February 2, 1957, in Ravenna, Ohio, to parents Eugene and Norma (Gilham) Reitz. He was a graduate of Ravenna High School and enjoyed a long career in law enforcement, retiring from the Mantua Police Department after 38 years of service. He enjoyed working security for the Soap Box Derby in Mantua, at which all the kids and families always made him smile.
Bob enjoyed salmon fishing in New York, camping with his wife and dogs, fishing and bear hunting in Canada, and taking cruises, especially to Alaska. He had a passion for woodcarving, making many carvings for friends and family, especially doing “Big Foot” cutouts . He was also involved with training the Portage County Sheriff's Dive team when it was established many years ago. He was part of the Portage County Horse Council and helped clear horse trails, on Ruby, at West Branch 35+ years ago of which many enjoy today.
Most recently, he developed an affinity for shopping on Amazon. After retiring, he loved getting together to catch up with fellow Mantua retirees. Bob absolutely loved dogs and currently spending time with Ranger and Koda.
He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Patty (Gharky) Reitz, his brothers Ron (Cheryle) Reitz, Bill (Kathryn) Reitz, his sister Pamela (Bill) Cicora, and brother-in-law George Bailey. He was also very much loved by his brothers and sisters-in law, their families, and many friends. He enjoyed his daily conversation with his friend, Dale.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Sue Bailey.
Family will receive friends at the Portage Faith United Methodist Church, 9922 St. Rt. 44, Mantua, Ohio, 44255, on Saturday, July 12, 2025, from 11 am until 1 pm. Memorial service, officiated by Pastor Bill Graham, will begin at 1 pm.
