Robert Joe Shadley

He was born June 1, 1949, in Akron, Ohio, to parents Joseph L. and Catherine E. (Shaffer) Shadley. Bob graduated from Rootstown High School in 1967 and has lived most of his life in Rootstown.

He proudly served in the United States Navy during the Vietnam War. Bob worked for many years at Wick’s Lumber before starting his own construction business. After his retirement, Bob focused on his garden and mowing his lawn. You could often see him on his tractor, or sitting on his swing, waving to everyone who drove by.

He was a former member of the Rootstown Church of Hope and currently a member of Fairhaven Church of Rootstown.

Bob is survived by his beloved wife Carolyn (Weaver) Shadley, who he married on September 15, 1995. He is also survived by his daughters: Laurie (Vince) Maltempi and Brandy (Robert) Miller, his step-children: Brian (Michele) Swihart and Crysann Swihart, as well as his grandchildren: Sally, C.J., Dale and Luci Maltempi, Cameron, Jake, and Avery Miller, and Meagan Swihart, along with his special cousins Eric (Angie) Palugh.

Bob was preceded in death by his parents and his dear cousin Becky.

Friends and family will be received Monday, October 5, 2026, from 4:00 – 7:00 PM at the Wood-Kortright-Borkoski Funeral Home, 703 E Main St, Ravenna. Friends will also be received Tuesday, October 6, 2026, from 10:00 – 11:00 AM at the Rootstown Church of Hope, 4065 OH-44, Rootstown, with funeral services officiated by Pastor Vince Maltempi and Pastor Mike Freeman at 11:00 AM. Interment will follow at Homeland Cemetery with military honors.
