An avid sportsman, Smitty enjoyed spending time with friends hunting and fishing in the hills of Ohio and West Virginia along with an occasional trip to the Carolina and Florida coastlines. He loved taking care of his plants and specialized in growing peppers, which he used in a never-ending quest to produce the hottest of sauces.
Smitty was a huge Cleveland Indians fan and supported the history and tradition of Chief Wahoo over statues protecting traffic. He had an artistic side, which he expressed in outdoor photography of sunsets and natural landscapes, which he leaves behind as part of his legacy. Characteristic of his strong sense of loyalty, Smitty worked in the press department at Automated Packaging Systems for over 20 years where he met many of his best friends including his partner of 17 years, Mrs. Ritchie Leap-Smith.
He is survived by his sons Robert E. Smith IV and Jesse Smith (mother Rhonda Johnson), his mother Beverly A. (Jarmusik) Smith and granddaughters Madelyn Grace Smith and Hayleigh Rae Smith.
Friends will be received on Friday, July 15, 2022 from 4:00 to 6:00 PM at the Wood-Kortright-Borkoski Funeral Home, 703 E. Main St., Ravenna, followed by a memorial service at 6:00 PM.
