Rosalie June Shultz passed away on Friday, November 1, 2019. She is survived by five children, ten grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, a sister, nieces and nephews, and many friends. Rose was born in Caldwell, Idaho on March 15, 1937 to W. Frederick and Emily Ode. At six years old, she lost her father to a tragic accident and Rose, together with her sisters Helen and Opal learned resilience and reliance upon one another. Their mother worked tirelessly running cafés across Idaho, Utah, Washington and Wyoming and the girls were increasingly at her side. In this way, and with the help and prayers of Emily’s extended family, the Bells, they persevered. Rose’s journey changed direction when the Bells gathered resources and sent her to boarding school. This 16-year old western girl boarded a bus in Yakima, Washington and made her way to the deep south of Greenville, South Carolina to attend Bob Jones Academy. There her faith was renewed, and she graduated with a sense of mission. This determination to be of use for God never left her and was the underlying theme of her life. The joy and calling of her final years were her work with Good News Clubs, where she taught the hope of Christ to elementary and middle school students across Stark County.
After graduating from Bob Jones Academy she went to Baptist Bible College in Springfield, Missouri. There she met and later married Robert Shultz. Determined to be of use, they served at or pastored several churches in Pennsylvania and Ohio. None were large and Bob always worked while pastoring. The size of the congregation was of no consequence and many families were helped spiritually, financially and emotionally by their efforts. Bob’s health became poor and he was homebound from 1980 until his passing in 2001. To make ends meet, Rose began working at Deerfield Farms where she continued to serve the farming community for more than 30 years. She loved Deerfield Farms, her colleagues and customers, and she was beloved by them in return.
She was a model wife, mother and grandmother. She lovingly and selflessly cared for her husband Bob. She raised five children to believe they mattered and could do good in the world. She encouraged and cared for ten grandchildren and saw them all reach adulthood, and was also a loving and faithful influence in the lives of her great-grandchildren. All hold her up as beyond reproach, and a model of how to live.
Her church home, Mount Pleasant Baptist Church was precious to her. She loved the people there and counted them as her friends.
She is preceded in death by parents Frederick and Emily, sister Opal, and husband Robert. Rosalie leaves behind her children: Timothy Shultz (Melanie), Thomas Shultz (Edie), Elizabeth Frame (Anthony), Rebecca Lanning (Kevin), and Martha Dunlavy (Dean); Grandchildren: Kathleen, Joseph, Christina, Riley, Emily, Amanda, Vanessa, William, Aaron, and Taylor; and Great-grandchildren Jaeden, Chloe and Willow. She also leaves behind her beloved sister Helen Stevenson (Jim), nephews, nieces, and friends.
