Ruth Irene Reber, age 93 of Ravenna, passed away Sunday, October 4, 2020. She was born July 25, 1927, in Charlestown, Ohio, to parents Charles and Merriam (Phile) Kraft. She was a lifetime resident of Portage County. Irene graduated from Charlestown High School where she was a cheerleader and played basketball. She married Roy Reber on July 8, 1950, at the Kent Methodist parsonage. They enjoyed 44 years of marriage together. They spent their married life raising two children in their home at “the fairgrounds.” They formed many life long friendships with their neighbors, often enjoying back yard picnics and fish fries. Her greatest joy was being a mother and grandmother, always putting family first. When her grandsons were growing up she never missed a sporting and school event. She was so proud she was able to attend their college graduations. She went on to work at many area establishments, including 26 years at Piccione’s Jewelers and 10 years at Davey Tree. In her later years she worked at the Ravenna Recreation Center, which took her well into her 80s. True to her personality and fun loving nature, one of her greatest joys was working with and getting to know people. Irene was a longtime member of the First United Methodist Church of Ravenna. She volunteered for many years at the Robinson Memorial Hospital gift shop. She enjoyed going to the Elks club where she spent time playing cards and laughing with friends. She also enjoyed cooking, golf outings and bowling leagues.

Irene is survived by her children: Scott (Julie) Reber and Gini (Joe) Luli, her grandchildren: Alex (Kelsey) Luli and Ryan (Katie) Luli, as well as her great-grandson Ethan Luli, and many loving nieces and nephews. Irene was preceded in death by her husband Roy Reber on May 2, 1994. She was also preceded by her parents and her sisters: Lucille Henderson, Jean Cole, and Wilma Kay Reeves.

Her wishes for cremation are being honored and a memorial service will be held on Friday, October 9, 2020, at 11:00 AM at the Wood-Kortright-Borkoski Funeral Home, 703 E. Main St., Ravenna. It is required that everyone attending the service wear a mask and practice social distancing. Private burial will take place at Maple Grove Cemetery.

To Gini Rae, Scott and your families - Our thoughts and prayers are with you on the loss of your Mom - We remember a life well-lived. Irene was a joy to know as you are well aware. I've been looking through old photo albums and found one of your Mom at age 13 with adorable pigtails. She's with your cousin Karen who was 10 months old at the time. My mother, your Aunt "Lue" Lucille, was a prolific picture taker! Wish we could be there in person but will try to watch the livestream. Peace and Love to each of you from Karen and Ken
