Sara Maxine Jackson was born on June 2, 1926, in Birmingham, AL to Charles Jules Maxwell and Annie Bell Porter-Maxwell. Whereas a young child she worked alongside her father who ran an ice business for the community.
As a young woman along with her mother, grandmother and sister, the family migrated from the south to Cleveland, Ohio. Sara received Christ at an early age and was baptized in Jesus name at The First-Born Church of The Living God. This is also where her mother Annie Bell Porter-Sadler met and married her stepfather Reverend Beverly Sadler, who would become the family patriarch until his passing.
Sara and her family moved to Ravenna, Ohio in 1954, where she joined Pilgrim Rest Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. Randolph. She became an active member of the congregation where later her stepfather Reverend Beverly Sadler became the head pastor. Sara was a pilar of the community, as the director of the Skeels Community Center, where she taught life skills, arts and crafts to the young children.
Sara was always a hard-working woman of the community. She was employed by The First United Methodist Church of Ravenna for over 15 years. She also worked for Hattie Larlham, where she was a caregiver to children with disabilities, in which she would bring several of them home with her on weekends. Finally, Sara was employed with General Electric Corporation for 24 years where she eventually retired. During her time at General Electric, she became lifelong friends with several of her co-workers and members of the community.
Even while working and being an active member of the community, Sara also lived a full life where she enjoyed traveling and shopping. Sara took several trips and cruises over the years. Some of her favorite places to travel included the Virgin Islands, California and Niagara Falls, Canada.
Sara was preceded in death by her grandmother Nona Miles, her parents Rev. Beverly and Annie Bell Sadler, her husband Claude Jackson, her sister Essie Mae (Nuddie) Ferrell, her daughter Gloria Mack and son-in-law Kenneth Mack and nieces Barbara Maxine Maxwell and Harolyn Leona (Ladybird) Kirklin Latimer.
Sara Jackson is survived by her son James (Gloriosa) Hadden, grandchildren Kenneth Wayne Mack, Antwanette Hadden, Rodney Mack, Jason Mack, Denesha (Daniel) Williams, Sara Hadden, James Adam Hadden and Denea (Kenneth) Burton; Godson Justin Rahim and Goddaughter Mary Jo Allison; a host of great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews who she loved dearly, and great nieces and nephews.
Sara Maxine Jackson was called home to be with the Lord on February 21, 2022.
Calling hours will be held on Saturday, March 5, 2022, from 10:00am to 10:30am with funeral services following immediately after at Pilgrim Rest Baptist Church, 5504 S. Prospect St., Ravenna, Ohio. Interment will follow at Maple Grove Cemetery.
