Born in 1951, in Cleveland, Ohio, Tom was the son of the late Frank and Lillian Bereck and lived most of his life in Ravenna. He graduated from Ravenna High School in 1969 and went on to earn his degree in business from Kent State University. Tom built a fulfilling career working for the railroad before serving the city of Ravenna for over 29 years as a plant operator, a role he carried out with dedication and quiet pride.
Tom was known for his warm sense of humor and his appreciative nature. He enjoyed spending time with his family and keeping up traditions with his daughter, Alana, like their annual trips to Cedar Point and Cleveland baseball games.
Tom was a big sports fan, staying loyal to the Browns and the Guardians over the years and cheering on his favorites- the University of Alabama football team and Slovenian basketball player, Luka Doncic. He loved music and was a fan of The Beatles and The Rolling Stones, as well as many other bands. Tom was also an avid horse racing fan and looked forward to the Kentucky Derby every year. Can't help but wonder what he would have thought of Golden Tempo's historic win.
Tom will be dearly missed by his daughter, Alana (David) Gerhardt, and grandchildren Ben, Eli, and June who shared a fondness for steam trains and raspberries with their grandpa. He is survived by his siblings Dan, David (Susan) and Susan Meyer. Tom will be fondly remembered by many nieces and nephews and one great niece.
Family will receive friends at the Wood-Kortright-Borkoski Funeral Home, 703 E. Main St., Ravenna, on Saturday, June 27, 2026, from 10am until the Memorial Service, officiated by Rev. Wayne Enders, beginning at 11am. Tom will be inurned along side his parents at St. Mary Cemetery.
