

He was born May 26, 1928 in Braddock, Pa. to Samuel Church and Irene (Sherry) Shay. He was a graduate of Duquesne University where he earned a marketing degree and graduating also from the University of Pittsburgh with a degree in pharmacy. Tom was very active in politics in the Pittsburgh area. He was a District Supervisor for the drug store chain Revco and also worked as a registered pharmacist in the area.
Tom was ordained as a Permanent Deacon in December, 1991. He served at St. Joseph Church at Randolph-Suffield for one year and then served as Permanent Deacon at St. Peter of the Fields from December, 1992 until his death. He was a member of the Catholic War Veterans, Post #1954, and was a member of the Knights of Columbus. He was active in church ministry, preaching and visiting the sick. He also served as Assistant Spiritual Director of the Canton Cursillo Movement.
Tom is survived by his wife of 34 years, Sherry (Lambert) Shay, his children: Rhonda Shay, Thomas (Jean) Shay, Mary (Darrell) Young, Adrianne (Michael) Meade, Charles John (Nancy) Shay, Patrick (Wendy) Shay, Melanie (Ron) Juhasz and Aaron Shay. Also surviving are 14 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchidren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his son; John Eagan Shay, and his sisters: Dorothy Downey, Virginia Nacey and Eleanor Bowman.
Family will receive visitors on Wednesday, December 29, 2010 from 4:00 P.M. – 7:00 P.M. at St. Peter of the Fields, 3487 Old Forge Rd., Rootstown, Ohio and also on Thursday, December 30, 2010 from 10 A.M. until the 11:00 A.M. Mass of Christian Burial celebrated by Father David Misbrener. Interment will follow at St. Peter of the Fields Cemetery.
