Thomas “Tom” Joseph Sicuro passed away on July 3, 2026, at the age of 83, a dedicated member of the Ravenna community. He built a respected legal career and lived a full life, but his greatest joy was his family. His marriage to Edith “Edie” Fitzgerald was the happiest day of his life and they were often inseparable, navigating life as a team. Over their 57 years of marriage they celebrated the births and accomplishments of their daughters and grandchildren. Nothing made him prouder than being a loving grandpa.
Tom was born on October 1, 1942, in Ravenna, Ohio, to Angelo and Josephine (Giglio) Sicuro. He graduated from Ravenna High School in 1960 and earned his bachelor’s degree from Kent State University in 1963. While at Kent State, he reconnected with fellow Ravenna High School alumnus Edith; they were married in 1966. After working as a reporter for the Record-Courier, Tom attended law school at Case Western Reserve University and the University of Akron, passing the Ohio bar in 1968. He began his legal career as an assistant Portage County prosecutor, then became a partner at Ravenna firm Kane, Bangas and Sicuro, and eventually opened his own practice. Tom was a longtime member of the Portage County Bar Association and served a term as president. He was a board member of the Portage Metropolitan Housing Authority (PMHA) since 1989 and was Board Chair at the time of his passing.
Depending on the day, you could find Tom in a courtroom, on the golf course, at his weekly poker game, or at the track watching his horses. If he wasn’t there, he was out to eat with Edith, visiting family, or on the phone sharing his thoughts about the world. He always wanted to know what everyone was up to—how work was going, how the kids were, and most of all, where you’d eaten lately and what you ordered. If you went too long without checking in, he’d fill your voicemail until you did.
Tom was passionate about harness horse racing. In 1976 he and Edith built their dream home and farm, creating Second Chance Stables. For forty-plus years they traveled the state to watch their horses run at Northfield Park and other tracks and fairgrounds, building community along the way. The farm was also a gathering place for family and friends, as well as the occasional stray dog or cat who inevitably found a home there.
Tom loved sports. He grew up golfing with his father and treasured tee times with friends and family. He coached rec league softball when his daughters were young and kept cheering for the Ravenna Ravens long after they graduated. He played basketball at lunch well into his sixties, played bocce as a proud member of the Ravenna Italian American Society, and remained a loyal, often exasperated, Cleveland sports fan.
Growing up in a traditional Italian family, Tom celebrated his roots through cooking, dining out, and a memorable family trip to Italy in 2018, where they visited the Giglio homeland of Vieste. It was an unforgettable trip—and one he was especially proud to make possible. He and Edith also traveled across the US and to Ireland, England, and France with dear friends.
Tom was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Edith; his parents, Angelo and Josephine; and his sister, Mary. He is survived by his daughters, Gaby Miller (Ben) of Westerville, Ohio; Noelle Sicuro (Jay Hartranft) of Upper Arlington, Ohio; and Michelle Sicuro (Scott Maisano) of Newburyport, Massachusetts; as well as five grandchildren: Seth Miller (Morgan Taylor), Hope Miller (Leo Cleary Fowler), Lily Miller, Eve Hartranft and Cora Hartranft.
Friends will be received on Monday, August 3, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Wood-Kortright-Borkoski Funeral Home, 703 E. Main St., Ravenna. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, August 4, at 11:00 a.m. at Immaculate Conception Church, 409 W. Main St., Ravenna, followed by a fellowship lunch.
He was one of a kind, and we were lucky to have him. To honor his memory, please check in on a loved one and see how they’re doing—just as he always did. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to the Ravenna City School District, 534 Summit Street, Ravenna, OH 44266, noting Tom Sicuro Memorial in the memo.
