He was born November 15, 1924, in Bellaire, Ohio, a son of the late Louis and Lillian (Koranek) Marik. Walter was a proud veteran of WWII, serving in the US Army Air Corps. He was active in many civic organizations, including the Order of Eastern Star Palmy Chapter, Deerfield American Legion, and a 60 year member of the Charity Masonic Lodge in Deerfield.
Walter was a hardworking person. He was always busy with the family farm in Palmyra and retired from the General Motors Lordstown plant after 20 years of service. In 1987, Walter and his wife, Janet, moved to Lehigh Acres, Florida. While there, Walter became a member of the First Christian Church and was active in the UAW’s retiree program. Walter also utilized his handyman skills around his condo association.
Surviving family members include his children: Becky (Mike) Sterling, Deborah Marik, and Bob (Linda) Marik, as well as his 6 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.
Walter was preceded in death by his wife Janet, daughter Susan, brother Louis, and sister Mildred.
Cremation has taken place, and friends will be received on Saturday, January 26, 2013, from 2:00 PM until the 3:00 PM Memorial Service at the Wood-Kortright-Borkoski Funeral Home, 703 E. Main St., Ravenna.
