John Ellis Mixon, Jr., 86, died Thursday July 18, 2013 at his home. Funeral services will be Monday July 22, 2013 at 2:00pm at the First Baptist Church of Raymond, MS., with visitation from 12:00noon till service time. Graveside services will be held at 4:00pm at the Shiloh Baptist Church Cemetery, Mt. Olive. MS.

Mr. Mixon was born July 17, 1927 in McComb, MS to John E. Mixon Sr. and Mildred Travis Mixon.

Mr. Mixon was a longtime member of Calvary Baptist Church in Jackson. He was in the U.S. Navy serving in WWll. He was an avid of Mississippi State Bulldog football fan, loved watching Eli & Peyton Manning play and also loved the New Orleans Saints. He loved sports with baseball and football being his favorite. He loved to go to Trustmark Park and watch the Miss. Braves play. He retired from the City of Jackson Tax Collectors office in 1978 and went to work for himself as a title abstractor until he totally retired and went to home to stay about 10 years ago.

John loved his family very much and enjoyed spending time with them. He was preceded in death by a son Jimmy Glenn Mixon in 2009.

Survivors include his wife of 53 years Betty Flynt Mixon; daughter, Lenora Mixon Thompson (Joey), of Utica, MS.; grandchildren; Dustin Mixon, of Morton, MS., Shellie Mixon Singletary (Jason), of Brandon, MS., Abby Thompson, of Utica, Ms.; great- grandchildren; Korey Singletary and Kyla Singletary.
