Katherine Kilby

A celebration of the life of Katherine Scott Kilby will be held on Thursday, August 30, 2012, at 2:00 p.m. at Raymond United Methodist Church with graveside services following at Raymond Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 12:00-2:00 on Thursday at the church.

Katherine Kilby, 94, died at Hospice Ministries in Ridgeland following a long illness. She was born on November 2, 1917, to the late Vilas Lamar Scott and Minnie Standefer Scott in Raymond. She was educated at Raymond Consolidated School and received her Associate of Arts degree from Hinds Junior College in Raymond. Following her graduation, she attended business school in Jackson.

Katherine married Harold Richard Kilby in 1938. She will be remembered for her sweet spirit as a wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. She was committed to her family, her church, and her community. Katherine was a lifelong member of Raymond United Methodist Church, a member of the Women's Society of Christian Service, and served as a Sunday School teacher. Katherine served on the Board of Directors at Merchants and Planters Bank for 27 years. She enjoyed her membership in Raymond Culture Club where she served as president and held other offices.

Katherine was preceded in death by her husband, Dick, her son, Harold Richard Kilby, Jr. (Dicky), her grand-daughter, Laura Katherine Nutt, and her sister, Helen Scott Jones.

She is survived by her daughters, Katherine Kilby Nutt and Sandra Kilby McKay (Mike); her daughter-in-law, Ginger Kilby; six grandchildren, Richard Nutt, Kate Raffaelle (John), Scott Kilby (Jodie), Richard Kilby, Ann Purcell (Clay), Jay Fowler (Fran), and six great-grandchildren.
