I am so sorry to hear about Lloyd. I was Gina's friend growing up and as kids we'd listen to him play his music. Truly talented and he was always so kind to me. God Bless all of his family and I miss Gina so much too.

  Lloyd was my father-in-law and much more. Lloyd was a friend that I loved talking with. He was self taught and was familure with many subjects, Sometimes we talked for hours at a time. It was a great plasure knowing him and he will surly be missed by many. He was a giving man, he wanted for others and would self -sacrifice. He is a person I would be prowd to be like. We will miss him but as long as we hold to his memory he will always be with us.

Lloyd Elsie Renner was the first of seven children of Jewel Renner (Bullock) and Otto Renner in Sand Springs, Kentucky.  Lloyd was born on March 4, 1929.  He was followed in birth by Minnie, Coy, Arlas, Carter, Lilly, and Bobby.  He was a typical boy of the times who dearly loved his mother, and didn't care for school.  He frequently quoted a tale of Otto (he called him Pap) walking him to the one room school house in Mt. Vernon at that time.  He said the teacher was named John Martin, and that he took off running to escape staying in school with the teacher and his Pap chasing him.  He always laughed and stated they couldn't catch him, and then shared that he ran all the way back to the house and that Jewel hid him under the bed so he wouldn't get into trouble.  Even though his father tried to get him an education, he fought it, and then later in life realized the importance in many ways and educated himself to advance through life.  He succeeded as he educated himself in electronics and opened his own business of "Renner's T.V." in Reading, Ohio.  Lloyd loved to read, began self-study, and welcomed discussions concerning the universe, outer space, and other scientific concepts.  He liked lively discussions.

Mr. Renner told of how when they grew corn the whole family would walk to transport the corn to a neighbor who had a grist mill.  The neighbor would charge them half of the crop to grind it into cornmeal.  They would then haved to walk back carrying the bags of cornmeal to last the family the entire year.  Lloyd said that he was a very young child, but even so that he had a small bag (which seemed quite large to him) to carry back.  He was taught at a young age the importance of everyone pulling their own weight, and always offered assistance even to strangers in need all through life.  He was always willing to pay not only his fair share, but more for others as well, and truly showed kindness and compassion to everyone through life, living by the golden rule.  Lloyd always shared everything he had.

Lloyd Renner had a loving mother in Jewel, who also looked out for her father who was said to have stolen a chicken during the depression to keep his family from starving.  At some point he was hiding out in a cave and Jewel would send food to him by Lloyd.  He was just a young boy at the time, but remembered taking the food to his grandfather.  Mr. Renner learned at an early age how important it is to take care of family.

The first years of Lloyd's life were hard.  During the depression jobs were scarce and he recited a story of his mother picking grass out of the yard and trying to cook it in a pot to feed the family.  He said it tasted horrible.  He also shared that a neighbor who had dairy cows brought the young family a gallon of milk every week.  Mr. Renner stated the man may never have known that the milk he was providing kept the family from starving to death.  He always tried to make sure that people had food they liked, and often took the family out to eat.  He was a giving, compassionate man.

Lloyd went into the United States Army on March 6, 1951.  He often told stories from the military.  He said when they tested the recruit's aptitude the officers threw a gun at him, and said "Here Renner, this is the only thing you're qualified to do."  He said he was in a fox hole during the Korean War with one of his superiors and he asked him how much oil (used for the oil lamps) it took to keep the moon burning like that.  He also shared stories about how good he was at keeping the old army trucks running.  He told us he got upgraded to work in the motor pool because of this ability, and eventually became a corporal whose responsibilities included driving around generals.  Mr. Renner eventually worked his way up to the status of a boiler engineer. of which he was proud.  He was honorably discharged in March of 1953.  He taught us not to fear tackling the hard projects.  He'd just roll up his sleeves and get the job done, all through life.

When his military duty was finished in 1953, Lloyd returned to the rolling green hills of Kentucky.  He was glad to be back home and took some of his earnings from the military to purchase a car.  In those days if you had a car that took you to the next level, as not many people had one.  Lillian Scott who eventually became Lloyd's wife, and the love of his life shared that when she first saw him in his car hea had a couple of girls in there already.  She said it was a sharp looking black car with white mud flaps and blue lights that looked like Christmas lights.  As she was walking to a friend's house named Irene Graves with 2 other girls named Peachy and Mazey he offered her a ride.  She refused because she thought he was already with one of those girls.  She shared that he had a cheap set of rings in the glove box he purchased for his sister Minnie for $1.98, and that Peachy asked if she could have them.  Lloyd's generous nature came through as usual and he told her she could have them.  They said later those rings turned green on her hand as she worked the fields but that she told everyone who would listen that she was engaged to Lloyd Renner.  Of course he never was.

It was several months later in Lockland, Ohio that Lillian Scott and Lloyd Renner's paths crossed again.  Lillian moved to Ohio with Aunt Pearl (McKinney) and her husband Clell and had gotten work as a maid.  She said he was still in that nice car.  He pulled up next to her as she was walking down the street and asked if she needed a ride.  She stated she thought for a couple of minutes and finally said yes.  Lloyd took her to a small diner named the Caravan and bought her a bowl of chili.  Then he called off work for the day and they went to Sharon Woods together and were inseparable after that.  They married on October 31, 1953 with a love that lasted forever.

Lillian stated that she remembered the first time Lloye took her to the farm in Kentucky to meet his family.  She said that the family members weren't home, they had gone to town.  She wanted to leave immediately as she felt uncomfortable being in their home without them being there, so she just kept begging him to leave with her before they got home.  They eventually did leave the farm house, but not before he played the guitar for her.  She said it was the first time he played the guitar in her presence, and that he just put his leg up on a chair and played for her.  Lloyd Renner had a natural musical ability, was a gifted song writer, and could play almost any instrument including the acoustic guitar, electric guitar, banjo, steel guitar, drums and keyboard.  Later in life he became an accomplished musician who played regularly in a variety of bars, often with relatives such as his daughter Carolyn Short and brothers Bobby and Arlas.  He loved his music.

The following year Lloyd and Lillian Renner had their first child, a boy named Alan.  They loved their son and fussed over him as he ahd asthma and breathing problems.  When he needed medicine they couldn't afford Lloyd sold the lamp out of their living room to purchase it.  Lillian was shocked when she came home from work and their only living room lamp was gone.  Lloyd didn't care for material things, he valued people and relationships more.  Alan said he could remember when they used to go for walks in the woods while back in Kentucky to visit.  He stated that at about 10 years old Dad took him by the old farmstead on the McKinney property and then went past where they usually stopped.  Alan shared that Dad acted like he was lost so Alan could guide him out of the woods to safety.  He said how special that made him feel to be the one who knew the way, and how he didn't think Dad had lost his way at all, but simply wanted to let Alan experience being the "hero."  What a wonderful gift that was a lasting impression to not fear being the leader, and helping others along the way.

As his second child, Teresa was a "Daddy's Girl" who resembled his sister Minnie and said he always called her "sis."  She recalled when they were young and he was babysitting them how he would turn the lights off and tell them to hide.  Then he'd come growling and looking for them through the house.  They'd be hiding under the bed and he'd reach back there like he was going to get them, and make them scream and laugh.  Lloyd always loved the old horror movies, and even wrote songs about them in later years.  There was a time when Teresa was sick, and Lloyd asked her if she wanted anything to help her get better.  She named a toy she's seen on T.V. and he went and bought it for her.  Lillian said he always did that when the children were sick, even when they really couldn't afford it, he'd spend the grocery money.  She shared how loving Lloyd was in all situations.  How he helped her get her first job, her first apartment, and her first car.  She said he would meet with her about every other night and buy her dinner (usually at Frisch's).  He always came to her rescue and helped to fix her car, and even offered assistance to get her out of town when poor life choices led her down the wrong path.  He was truly her "Knight in Shining Armor" to Teresa.  He told her once that he was surprised that she followed him in his interest in electronics.  Teresa hopes to be just like Lloyd who was a blessing to her.

His third child Carolyn June was the apple of his eye.  Carol looked very similar to Lloyd's sister Lilly, and had the same kind nature.  She remembered that he would be the one who "rescued" her from chores while visiting in Kentucky adn take the children for horse rides (usually a mule, but they didn't know the difference).  She told about how he would take her to the grocery and fruit market and buy her food whenever she needed it, and how he would always offer what he had to others before eating it himself.  Carolyn was gifted with his musical abilities, and later in life sang with the band he was playing with at the time, named "The Country Edition."  She shared that if it were not for Lloyd she probably would never have gotten involved in the music industry and, would not have met her love, Tim Short, as he was a musician as well.  Carol recalled that even years later as her music style had grown to where she no longer regularly performed with Lloyd's band, that on many occasions he would come to her gigs and play to help out.  She said he refused to take any of the money for the band performance, stating that he just wanted to be by his girl and help her with her musical career.  Lloyd was always generous, talented, and kind to a fault.  He had a way of making each person feel special as they worked with him and looked out for everyone's needs.

Lillian and Lloyd had a fourth child named Lisa Lynn.  She strongly resembled his mother, Jewel and was beautiful and loved.  There was a green building with a piano bar in it and Lisa had said she would like to go in there to see what it was like when she was about 5 years old.  One day he took her to the piano bar and had a special father-daughter lunch there, but didn't tell anyone where they were going.  Lillian said that Lloyd never took her or anyone else to the piano bar, only Lisa as she asked to go.  It was a great example of how he tried to help everyone realize their dreams.  the special bond between Lloyd and Lisa existed throughout their lives.

The fifth child was Regina Marie.  She was the baby.  Lloyd spent time making a push-pedal car for her that was turquoise in color.  Lillian remembered how special that little car was to Gina, and how much she loved it.  She would ride it up and down the street all of the time.  All of the neighborhood children, and even some of the siblings may have been a little jealous of that little car.  Lloyd showed the love that he had for his youngest child on many occasions and in many ways.  Gina strongly resembled Lillian's side of the family.  She was beautiful.  Later in life as Gina grew up Lloyd took her roller skating.  Many times after working a long hard day (he became a top salesman for Warner Cable) he would come home and instead of eating his hot dinner Lillian prepared, he would first go to Frisch's to get Gina's dinner because she didn't want to eat what was fixed.  He couldn't enjoy his dinner unless he knew Gina ate what she wanted.  This type of kindness and generosity was not unusual for Lloyd, to Gina or anyone else.

Lloyd dearly loved his family.  He was a good provider, a hard worker, and a decent and honest man.  He would let others ahead of him in line, frequently tried to pay people even for small favors, and exemplified giving to others.  He was never selfish, always put others before himself, and gave all he had.  He was willing to work hard for what he had, and was proud that he always managed to pay the doctor bills, and provide dentist visits for the children.  He and Lillian shared 57 years together, and she was the love of his life.  They shared a home on 110 Gebert St. in Reading, Ohio for many years and he ran his buisness out of the basement for many years.  Lillian assisted him with  the business, taking phone calls and dealing with customers while he made repairs.  He frequently spoke fondly of childhood days in Kentucky, and dearly loved his sisters and brothers, mom and pap.  Lloyd loved country music, and frequently played Hank Williams songs and tapes.  Many nights were spent playing music in the basement with his brothers.

He cared deeply for his neices and nephews.  Jeff McKinney who was one of Lloyd's nephews said he taught he and his sister Paula how to roller skate.  It was not unusual for him to take Regina skating 3 nights a week.  Jeff said he was having trouble standing up on the skates, and that Lloyd danced around in them.  He was remembered skating backwards and dancing around on roller skates well into his fifties.  He loved skating.  Lloyd loved watching air planes take off and land.  He would frequently take the whole family to the airport and they'd sit for hours watching planes take off and land.  He learned to fly an airplane all the way through the solo flight that was to be his final test, and then didn't pursue it anymore.  He learned to hand glide, and would jump off high hills with it strapped to his back.  Unfortunately he hurt himself during a crash landing, so he stopped pursuing the hand gliding.  Lloyd was a great example of how to live life.  He embraced life, lived it to the fullest and enjoyed every moment.

Lloyd loved his son and daughter-in-laws, too.  He understood the challenges that come along sometimes, and tried to help them to work through any problems encountered.  He became very close to John Herbst, Teresa's husband and Tim Short, Carol's husband prior to their relocation to Florida.  In his final years daughter-in-law Jane Renner cared for him and looked over his affairs.  He was grateful to her for bringing Lillian to visit, inviting them into their homes on holidays, and working as an advocate for his care.  She also made frequent trips to the store to pick up items he enjoyed.  There are no words which could possibly express how grateful this family is for her role.  She became his daughter, not a daughter-in-law. 

He loved and adored all of his grandchildren and greatgrandchildren.  He frequently picked them up and took them skating or for ice cream when he was able.  He always loved babies, children, and animals.  Lloyd Renner was a champion for those unable to take up for themselves.  He was overprotective in many ways, as in looking at the actual construction of rides at amusement parks, and sawing off corners on tables for safety.

He gave of himself to others and never thought twice about spending money on them, or helping the out in their time of need.  Mr. Renner was thankful for all of the blessings he experienced in his life.  He would have been grateful to all of those who have come to honor his life.  Keep his memory alive in your heart, and in that manner the spirit of Lloyd Renner will live on forver.  His music and the memories he made will live on through time.

And they will indeed find their exquisite delight in the abundance of peace. 

Why can we believe these promises of God?
Numbers 23:19 says -  God is not a man that he should tell lies,
Neither a son of mankind that he should feel regret.
Has he himself said it and will he not do it,
And has he spoken and will he not carry it out? 

What must we do to inherit these promises of God?
Psalms 83:18; Psalms 97:9; Ecclesiastes 12:13

I remember him coming to our house to fix our tv and our stereo when I was a little girl growing up in Reading.  Even today when I drive through Reading I remember where his shop used to be.  I pray that God blesses and comforts his family in their time of grief.
