Arlene Mary Lauro (Spirelli), 88, passed away peacefully on November 1, 2026, surrounded by her loving family at her home in Reading, Pennsylvania. Born on May 31, 1938, in Yonkers, New York, Arlene lived a life filled with love, laughter, music, and an unwavering devotion to her family.
A proud woman of Italian heritage, Arlene believed that no one should ever leave her home hungry. The moment someone walked through her door, she was offering them something to eat. She loved cooking for family and friends, and her home was always a place of warmth, hospitality, and plenty of good food.
Arlene was truly the life of the party. She loved music, especially Connie Francis and Tom Jones, and never missed an opportunity to sing, dance, or tell a good joke. Her sense of humor was legendary among family and friends. You could call Arlene at any hour of the day or night, and she would happily tell you a joke. Her children often did just that, sometimes calling with a room full of friends waiting to hear her latest joke. She never disappointed, leaving everyone laughing and creating memories they would never forget. True to her fun-loving spirit, Arlene was still singing, laughing, and telling jokes with her family right up until the final day of her life.
In her early years, Arlene worked as a bridal consultant before marrying the love of her life, Donald Francis Lauro. Together they shared 65 years of marriage, building a life centered around family. Arlene proudly referred to herself as a "domestic engineer," dedicating much of her life to caring for her home and loved ones. She also spent a brief time working alongside her husband at Central Catholic High School.
Above all else, Arlene treasured her family. She was a loving and devoted mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother who took immense joy in being part of her grandchildren's lives. From family vacations to summers spent together, she created countless memories filled with laughter, love, and togetherness. Her grandchildren held a special place in her heart, and she made sure they always knew how deeply they were loved.
Arlene was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 65 years, Donald Francis Lauro, who passed away just five days earlier on October 27, 2026. She was also preceded in death by her brother, Billy, and her sister, Joan (Jim).
She is survived by her son, Donny (Sheri); her daughters, Theresa and Michelle; her brother, Bob (Barbara) Spirelli; her grandchildren, Bobby (Lindsey), Christa (Ryan), Jess (Cody), Amy, and Christian; as well as her great-grandchildren, Rizon, Angelina, Gianna; her nephew, Jimmy (Anne-Marie); and numerous other nieces and nephews.
Arlene will be remembered for her beautiful spirit, her quick wit, her love of music and dancing, her generous heart, and the unconditional love she gave her family. Though her voice may be silent, the laughter, songs, traditions, and memories she leaves behind will live on in the hearts of those who loved her.
Her family takes comfort in knowing that she and Don are together again, just as they had been for 65 wonderful years.
Details regarding a celebration of Arlene's life will be announced at a later date.
