

Barbara was born in Northampton, MA on February 19, 1929, a daughter of the late Raymond and Ruth (Erickson) Pauling.
She attended Baptist Missionary Training School and did field work in many churches. When it was permitted, she taught Bible in first grade in public school and later became Christian Endeavor Leader and Supt. Of Bible School. As a member of First Baptist Church, she served as Jr. High Sunday School teacher and helped organize a Youth group, served as Deacon, Trustee, Missionary Board and served on other committees. Her husband Zebual DeWayne Custo was a letter carrier so she became active in the Ladies Auxiliary. They all worked for the fundraisers they held for M.D.A. She was Past President of Muscular Dystrophy of Reading under the Association of Berks of M.D.A. As Vice President and President, she was speaker for Public Health Educator and received appreciation from Jerry Lewis for outstanding work, for M.D.A. Her family was very successful in doing "Operation Child I.D. Barbara was a Campfire Leader and worked as a secretary in a Real Estate and Insurance Office. She was a Rainbow Girl and earned her Majority in Milton, Mass. Chapter #38 and is Past Matron of Chapter #390 Order of Eastern Star of Reading, PA., now member of Chapter #251 Order of Eastern Star and has received a 50 year certificate.
While living at Providence House, Barbara served as a Treasurer and later President to Providence Senior Council. She was instrumental in forming a game room where regardless of disability everyone could enjoy.
She is survived by her daughter Sandra and her husband Barry Fehnel. Funeral Services will be Thursday October 31, 2024 at 10am in Auman's Inc, 390 W Neversink Rd., Reading PA 19606. Burial to follow in Forest Hills Memorial Park. A Viewing will be Thursday 9-10am in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to M.D.A. in her memory.
