Carmen Luz Velazquez

She was the loving wife of the late Juvencio Velazquez. He passed away on August 15, 1989. Born on August 23, 1943 in Yabucoa, Puerto Rico, she was a daughter of the late Hipolito Perez Lazu and Ramona Colon Martinez.

Carmen was a Reading High School graduate and was self-employed as a seamstress in the city. Later in retirement she worked for the Reading Housing Authority in the Resident Services.

She was an avid Walmart shopper and enjoyed sewing and reading the Bible. Carmen was a Sgt. Major with the Salvation Army Temple Corps.

Surviving are four children: Jose R. Velazquez, Maria M. Vazquez, Nilza I. Hall and Angel L. Velazquez; 13 grandchildren and one great-grandson. Also surviving are 6 siblings out of 23. Carmen is predeceased by a son, Abimael Velazquez.

A funeral service for Carmen is Friday, June 27, 2014 at 11 a.m. in The Salvation Army Temple Corps, 301 S. 5th St., Reading, PA 19602. Family and friends will be received in the church on Friday from 10 to 11 a.m. Burial will be in Aulenbach's Cemetery, Reading.

In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made for Carmen to Theo C. Auman Funeral Home, 247 Penn St., Reading, PA 19601 to offset funeral expenses.
