He is survived by his wife, Michelle A. (Bowen) Gilliam. Charles was born in Philadelphia on October 6, 1929, a son of the late Charles F. Sr. and Elizabeth (Adams) Gilliam.
He was an Army veteran of the Korean War and was employed by Adapt in Reading as a case manager for over 20 years, retiring on January 20, 2015.
In addition to his wife, Charles is also survived by his daughter, Deborah Gilliam, of Alexandria, VA; son, Malcolm Gilliam, of Reading; daughter, Marchere Gilliam, of Reading; his 2 sisters, Katherine Lindsey and Alberta Payne, both of Philadelphia. There are 2 step-sons, Mallory Bowen of Washington, D.C., Marco Bowen of Reading; and 6 grandchildren.
Charles was predeceased by his sister, Charlotte Pettus, and grandson, Marsean Legions.
Services will be Wednesday, January 13, 2016, at 11 a.m. in Theo C. Auman Funeral Home, 247 Penn St., Reading. Burial to follow in Indiantown Gap National Cemetery. A viewing will be Wednesday 9-11 a.m. in the funeral home.
