Born in Reading, PA, on August 10, 1956, he was the son of the late Joe S. Shirey and Miriam L. (Frey) Shirey. In addition to his parents, David was preceded in death by his sister, Joanne Nervik.
David was a graduate of Reading High School and worked for many years at the Blind Association, now known as the Vision Resource Center of Berks County. The friendships he formed there meant a great deal to him and remained an important part of his life.
David loved spending time in his room listening to music, especially Broadway tunes. He enjoyed collecting and watching movies, going bowling, and always looked forward to trips to Friendly’s for ice cream with his friends.
Those who knew David will remember his gentle spirit and easygoing nature. He had a happy-go-lucky personality and was rarely seen without a calm, contented presence. His quiet kindness left a lasting impression on everyone he met.
David’s memory will be lovingly carried on by his sister, Pamela Coldren; his nephews, Michael Coldren and Steve Coldren; his great-niece, Dakota “Koti”; and the many friends he made through the workshop.
David will be laid to rest at Forest Hills Memorial Park, Reiffton.
