

Dorothy Carden (Kemp) Henny, 92, of Reading, passed away peacefully in Berks Heim Nursing on Thursday, November 16, 2017. She was the devoted wife of Harold C. Henny. The couple married on June 30, 1964 and shared 53 years of marriage.
Born on February 26, 1925 in Yorkton, Saskatchewan, Dorothy was a daughter of the late Frederick Alfred and Ada (Rixon) Kemp of England.
At a young age, Dorothy was employed with David Spencer's Department Store in Canada before she joined the Canadian Women's Army Corp during WWII. Later she was employed with Republic Aviation in the shipping department.
She was very artistic and her talents included oil painting, knitting, crocheting and ceramics.
Dorothy never met any other family members outside of her parents and her brother, Fred. Contact was lost between her large extended family during WWII.
In addition to her husband, Harold; Dorothy is survived by a son, Robert A. Lutfi and his daughter, Emily A. Lutfi of Madison, WI and a daughter, Barbara A. (Henny) Burdan and her husband, Gregory of Mount Penn and their son, Michael Burdan of Washington, DC.
In addition to her parents, Dorothy is predeceased by her brother, Frederick Kemp.
Services for Dorothy, who was a member of Zion Evangelical Congregation Church in Mohnton, will be at 1pm on Friday, December 1, 2017 in Theo C. Auman Funeral Home, 247 Penn St., Reading, PA 19601 with Rev. John Ragsdale officiating. Family and friends will be received in the funeral home for a viewing from 12pm to 1pm. Dorothy will be laid to rest in Forest Hills Memorial Park, Reading.
