Earl Dean Fanning was born in Oklahoma City, OK on March 14th, 1936. He was the first of six children born to Eva Lee Cook and Felix Fanning. Earl was drafted into the United States Army in 1960 where he spent the majority of his time in Karslruhe, Germany. After his service in the Army, he served in the United States Marine Corps. During his time in the service, he continued his education at Fresno State in California. After completing college, Earl began his career teaching in Fresno. Later, he moved to Oxnard and continued his career at Port Hueneme School District where he retired from his teaching career in 1993. Earl had many interests and hobbies. He enjoyed racing motorcycles and drag boats, restoring and working on cars and motorcycles, working with wood, photography and videography, and visiting historic sites throughout the country. It was also common to spot Earl driving his truck with his usual travel companions… his dogs. Most of all, he loved being with his family and friends. While he was quite the prankster, Earl was also very kind. He was more compassionate than he would ever admit and hardly talked about it. He just showed it. He is survived by his wife, Rebecca; his son, Wayne and his wife Kate; his grandchildren, William and Amelia, and his brother, Danny Fanning.
