Edgar "Eddie" D. Arters, 90, of Douglassville, PA, passed away on Wednesday, April 29, 2026, at his residence. Born in Reading, PA on February 17, 1936, he was a son of the late Edgar M. Arters and Amelia L. (Hafer) Arters.
In addition to his parents, Edgar was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 65 years, Sarah M. Arters, who passed on April 23, 2026; his brothers, G. Frank Arters, Kenneth “Kenny” Arters, and Ralph “Fritz” Arters; and his sisters, E. Virginia Shearer, Betty Krebs, and Martha Wentzel.
Edgar proudly served his country in the United States Air Force National Guard for 8 years and was a member of St. Mark’s Lutheran Church in Birdsboro. He worked for 28 years as a machinist at Birdsboro Steel Corporation before later driving truck for his older brother’s company, G. Frank Arters Inc.
Raised on a farm, Eddie had a lifelong love for tractors and gardening. He especially enjoyed growing vegetables, with corn and potatoes being his most abundant crops each year. He also helped out on his brother G. Frank's family's farm where they raised steer and produced hay and corn feed.
Eddie was known as a true “do-it-yourselfer.” Whether it was remodeling his home or adding onto it, he could do it all. He restored an old pony cart from his childhood along with a 1953 Ford truck with the help of his son Greg and nephew Kenny, both of which he took great pride in.
A quiet and humble man, Eddie was always willing to lend a helping hand, often plowing snow for his neighbors without hesitation.
Edgar is survived by his son, Gregory Arters; his daughter, Beth M. Hagginbothom; his son-in-law, Michael Hagginbothom; his four granddaughters, Alexa, Rachael, Hayley, and Janelle; and two great-grandchildren.
