Edwin "Ed" C. Schroeder, 69, of Exeter Twp, passed away peacefully at home on Sunday, September 29, 2013. He was the loving husband of Ann M. (Rittenhouse) Schroeder. The couple married in their home church, Holy Spirit Lutheran Church, Reading, on June 12, 1971.
Born in West Reading on Decemebr 3, 1943, Ed was a son of the late Edwin P. and Jane M. (Hart) Schroeder.
He was a graduate of Schuylkill Valley High School, before joining the U.S. Army in 1963. While serving, he became a Medical Specialist and served in Germany. He was honorably discharged in 1966.
Ed joined the Reading Bureau of Fire on January 3, 1970 and retired in April 1987. He served as Reading Fire Fighter Local 1803 secretary for two years. He also was a member of Rainbow and Junior Fire Station and 3rd & Court Fire Station. He was employed with Scott Ryder Auto Parts and Birdsboro Napa Auto Parts as a parts delivery man.
In addition to his loving wife, Ann, Ed is survived by two children: Jeffrey D. Schroeder of Exeter Twp and Melissa "Missy" A. Lewis and her fiancé, Jeremy Smoyer of Birdsboro; two grandsons, James Lewis and Kenneth Lewis Jr. of Birdsboro; and his special furry friend, Pandera.
Ed is predeceased by a sister, Nancy McCarty; his favorite aunt, Daphne Hart; and his furry buddy, Zeus.
A funeral service for Ed will be at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, October 4, 2013 in Theo C. Auman Funeral Home, 247 Penn St., Reading. Family and friends will be received in the funeral home Friday morning from 9 to 10:00 a.m. Burial will be in Berks County Memorial Gardens, Fleetwood, with Military Honors provided by Topton Honor Guard.
