He was born on March 27, 1948 to Reverend Samuel and Pearl Hymon in Washington, D.C.
Fran was a 1966 graduate of Reading High School. At the age of 19, he bravely served our country during the Vietnam War.
He was a recipient of The Purple Heart and fought proudly for the 173rd infantry. Fran enjoyed traveling, music, but most of all, spending time with his family and friends. He was a welder for Dana Corporation for 17 years. He was a trustee of The American Legion, George Washington Carver Post #962.
He is survived by his loving wife, Karen; cherished children, Jason Whitlock of Amarillo, TX; and Shawn Cummings and her husband, James of York, PA; his stepchildren: Ariel Walker, Philadelphia, PA; Alura Walker, Philadelphia, PA; Kenneth Gilyard and his wife, Chanelle (Bishop), Chester Springs, PA; and Christopher Gilyard, Reading; his beloved grandchildren: Kiana Whitlock, Ashleigh Cummings and Sophie Cummings; his sisters: Geraldine Means of Reading, PA; Valerie Hymon of Bladensburg, MD; and Tiny Curbam of Baltimore, MD; as well as a host of nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends. Fran was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers, Charles Hymon and Bobby Hymon; and his sister, Doris Sheriff.
Services will be Friday July 11, 2014 at 11:30 a.m. in Theo C. Auman Funeral Home, 247 Penn St., Reading. Burial to follow in Berks County Memorial Gardens. A viewing will be Friday, 10:30-11:30 a.m. in the funeral home.
