Genevieve Joyce Gumby, 84, of Reading, PA entered eternal rest on Tuesday, June 10, 2025, at Reading Hospital. Born in Reading, on March 23, 1941, she was a daughter to the late Anson Powers and Gladys (Smith) Powers. In addition to her parents, Genevieve was welcomed into heaven by her husband, Carl James Francis Gumby Sr.; her son, Keith Gumby; her brothers, Tyrone and Alfonso Powers; and one cherished grandchild, Ilana.
Genevieve was a dedicated and compassionate caregiver who spent many years working as a CNA at Berks Heim, until her well-earned retirement in 2003.
Genevieve was a faithful member of Zion Baptist Church, where she found strength in her spirituality and community. She was also a proud member of Household of Ruth #175 of Reading, PA, under District Household of Ruth #3, State of Pennsylvania, where she forged lasting friendships and committed herself to acts of love, charity, and sisterhood.
Genevieve's spirit will be carried on by her 6 children: Percy Lee Powers (Yon Cha), Carl J.F. Gumby Jr., Lance M. Gumby (Carrie), Denise A. Thomas (George), Felicia M. Brooks-Hillman (Freddie Bernard), and Michele K. Rodriguez (Christopher). She also leaves behind her 7 siblings: David Powers, Charles Powers, Doc Powers, Ricky Powers, Gladys Camper, May R. Singleton and Loretta Colbert;10 grandchildren, 3 great grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews to cherish her memory.
The family will greet relatives and friends on Friday, June 27, 2025, from 8:00 AM to 8:30 AM at Theo C. Auman Inc., 247 Penn St., Reading, PA 19601. A celebration of life service will promptly commence in the funeral home at 8:30 AM. Inurnment will immediately follow at Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, 60 Indiantown Gap Rd, Annville, PA 17003.
