Geraldine Felicia Auton, 81, of Mt. Penn, entered eternal rest on Monday, July 7, 2025, at her home, surrounded by the love of her devoted family. Born on December 13, 1943, in Reading, PA, she was a daughter to the late Joseph Kohut Sr. and Cecilia Mary (Zielomski) Kohut. In addition to her parents, she was greeted in heaven with her brother, Joseph Kohut Jr.; her sister, Charlotte Ash; her stepson, Albert Auton; and her infant son, Gerald Auton.
Geraldine was a proud graduate of Reading Central Catholic High School. In 1979, she began her career as an Integrated Circuits Production Operator with AT&T, which later became Lucent and then Agere. She remained with the company until her well-deserved retirement. She was also a faithful parishioner of St. Catharine of Siena Roman Catholic Church.
Geraldine found joy in feeding the birds in her yard, tuning in to the Game Show Network, and most of all, doting on her grandchildren, who lovingly called her Nana. In her eyes, they could do no wrong and and she made sure everyone knew it. She had a quick wit, a mischievous sense of humor, and a heart big enough to give you the shirt off her back, even if it came with a sarcastic comment or two.
Rest in eternal peace, Geraldine. Your sass, strength, and fiery personality will live on in all who knew and loved you.
Geraldine's spirit will be carried on by her beloved husband, William James Auton. Together, they shared nearly 52 years of marriage, preparing to celebrate their anniversary this coming November 3. She also leaves behind her loving daughters: Amanda Sallada and her husband, Peter, and Christina Auton and her fiancé, Luis Colón; her stepson, Charles Auton and his wife, Valerie; and her brother, Rev. David Kohut. She will be deeply missed by her cherished grandchildren: Alex Carrasquillo, Destinee Melendez, Aiden Melendez-Auton, and Morgan Auton.
A viewing for Geraldine will be held Tuesday, July 15, 2025 from 8:30 AM to 10:30 AM at St. Catharine of Siena Roman Catholic Church, 4975 Boyertown Pike, Reading, PA 19606.
