Gloria Eleanor (Stoltz) Zalegowski, 91, of Leola, Pennsylvania, passed away peacefully on Thursday, April 18, 2018, at home, where she was cared for by her daughter and son-in-law, Linda and Roger Fry and great-granddaughters, Katelynn and Brittney Harner.
Born on December 3,1927, she was the daughter of the late Josephine Rose (Preska) Graeff and Adam Stoltz. She was the wife of the late Stanley F. Zalegowski, Sr. She attended Reading High School and was employed by the Reading Hospital and Medical Center for over 15 years.
Gloria, who was referred to lovingly as “Me Me” and “G-G” by her family, was a supportive, wise, caring woman with a spirited sense of humor. She enjoyed crossword puzzles, reading, word searches, and in her youth, the jitterbug, dancing, gardening, fishing, horseback and bicycle rides. She loved golf-pro Phil Mickelson and the Philadelphia Phillies and watched them faithfully on television. But over everything else, her family was the most important thing in her life. Me Me was very proud of her large family and would do anything for them. Her family has fond memories of playing in her backyard and picking Bluebells, spending holidays and birthdays together, watching Jeopardy and playing board games in her Penn Avenue apartment, and days spent shopping and going to the movies, as well as her corn pies, Golumpkis, and chicken soup.
In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Stanley F. Zalegowski, Sr., her brother Joseph Graeff, and her beloved son, Stanley F. Zalegowski, Jr.
She is survived by her daughters, Jo Anne Zalegowski, Reading, Pennsylvania, Linda C. (Zalegowski), wife of Roger Fry, Leola, Pennsylvania and her son, Peter Zalegowski, Hamburg, Pennsylvania.
She is also survived by her grandchildren, Marijo (Steffy), wife of James Smith, Wyomissing, Pennsylvania, Jennifer (Steffy), wife of Robert Burton, Downingtown, Pennsylvania Bryon Harner, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Chad Harner, husband of Tina, New Holland, Pennsylvania, Holly (Portner), wife of George Shattuck, Atlanta, Georgia, Michele Portner, Reading, Pennsylvania, and Shaun Zalegowski, Hamburg, Pennsylvannia, great-grandchildren, Victoria (Harner), wife of Joey Martin, Alison Boettlin, Robert and Ryan Burton, Katelynn, Brittney, Stephanie, Chad Jr., and Jack Harner, Joshua and Trevor Koontz, Christian Miller, Jacob Albritton, Harrison, Luke and Claire Shattuck, Gemma Zalegowski and great-great-granddaughter, Chloe Martin.
Services are private. Interment will follow the service in Forest Hills Memorial Park, Reading, Pennsylvania.
