James Reginald Conrad,64, of Muhlenberg Township entered eternal rest on Thursday, December 7, 2023, at Jefferson Einstein Hospital, Philadelphia. Born in Wilson, PA on June 08, 1959, he was the only son to Gloria Lorraine (Macher) Conrad and the late James William Conrad.
James spent over three decades providing pre-hospital emergency medical care throughout the city of Reading; with various private ambulances and volunteering with Southern Berks Regional EMS. He saved an untold number of lives in his time as an EMT and paramedic, and through his inspirational leadership as the 1st Deputy Chief of EMS for the City of Reading. James administered outstanding care to every single patient who ever called for his help and his dedication to duty was immeasurable.
James was a board member and president of the EMS Council, worked with The National Hot Rod Association (NHRA) on their Safety Safari Team and was a faithful parishioner of LCBC Church, where he and his wife were on the medical team.
James was an avid Philadelphia Eagles fan, enjoyed target shooting, and collecting model race cars, but his favorite pastime was his love of drag racing.
James' laid back and soft-hearted personality led him to put others first and he was always willing to give a helping hand. He will be missed by all blessed enough to have known him.
James' spirit will be carried on by his mother Gloria Lorraine (Macher) Conrad; his beloved wife of 42 years, Barbara (Stoudt) Conrad; and his sister Lori Conrad. He also leaves behind his daughter Jeannette Hefter; son Joel Hefter and his wife Melanie and his granddaughter Laney Hefter to cherish his memory.
The family will greet relatives and friends on Saturday, December 16, 2023 from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM at Auman's Inc. Funeral Home, 391 W. Neversink Rd., Reading, PA 19606, followed by a celebration of life service promptly commencing at 12:00 PM, with Pastor Andrew Alquist officiating.
