Born on July 3, 1931 in Reading, PA. Jim was predeceased by his father, James A., mother, Dorothy C., his brother, Jack L. and step granddaughter.
He was a member of One United Church of Christ of Kenhorst, PA. He graduated from Reading High School in 1949 and pursued his education at Wyomissing Polytechnic Institute, graduating in 1953 with an associate degree in engineering. After WPI closed the school, all alumni of WPI were recognized as a graduates of Penn State University.
Jim was employed by Textile Machine Works, Rockwell International and Arrow International for a total of 47 years. The last 29 years of his working life, he served as a supervisor.
He is survived by Diane E. Snyder, his step daughter. and two step-granddaughters and their husbands. Also two step-great grandchildren, two step great great grandchildren.
Jim was a life member of the East End AC and the Sinking Spring Fire Co. and also a social member of the West Reading Fire Co. He served in the U.S. Army in 1954-56 with a tour of duty in France. He took his basic training in the 101st Airborne Infantry Division. He was an avid baseball fan, played softball with several teams in Berks County. After retiring from playing, he became an umpire and served in this capacity for 12 years.
Services will be Saturday, November 4, 2023 at 11am in Auman's Inc Funeral Home 391 W Neversink Rd., Reiffton. Burial to follow in Forest Hills Memorial Park. A viewing will be Saturday 10-11 am in the funeral home.
