

James "Jimmie" Henry Long, Jr., 68, was called home to his Lord and Savior on Thursday, April 27, 2017 in Christiana Hospital, DE surrounded by family. He was the loving husband of Rosemary "Tina" (Taylor) Long. The couple married in Wilmington, DE on May 28, 1994.
Born in Reading on February 15, 1949, Jimmie was the son of the late James Henry, Sr. and Elizabeth R. (Matthews) Long and step-son of the late Emma Marie (Chavous) Long.
Jimmie was a 1967 graduate of Reading Senior High School. Shortly thereafter, he enlisted in the US Army and served three tours of duty in Vietnam where he received several distinguished Honors. He was later employed for 36 years with the US Post Office as an Operations Manager until he retired in 2004.
He enjoyed riding motorcycles with his friends and loved collecting firearms. Jimmie was a man of few words, but he loved his family and friends.
In addition to his wife, Tina; Jimmie leaves behind to cherish his memory, six children: Darris J. Long and his wife, Adreanna of Harrisburg, NC; Brandon C. Long and his wife, Nikki of Virginia Beach, VA; Daniel J. Long of Orlando, FL; Tara C. (McFarlin) Houston and her husband, Kevin of Marietta, GA; Jennifer M. (Haile) Taylor and her husband, Leigh of Conshohocken PA; and Veronica R. Haile of Capital Heights, MD; nine grandchildren; a sister: Yvonne (Long) Price of Reading; and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, family and friends.
Also surviving is his honorary mother: Mattie "Big Mama" Wilson; two honorary brothers: Todd Wilson and his wife, Frances "Bitsy"; MacArthur Wilson and his fiance, Michelle Chavarria; and honorary sister: Joan Mann.
Jimmie is predeceased by a daughter: Michelle E. Haile; a brother: Douglas Wilson; a sister: Cynthia Towles and his honorary father: Clarence Wilson.
Home Going services will be at 11am on Friday, May 5, 2017 at St. James Chapel Church of God in Christ, 11 S. 9th St., Reading, PA 19602. Family and friends will be received at the church on Friday from 9am to 11am. Jimmie will be laid to rest with fellow comrades at Ft. Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, Annville, PA. Theo C.
