Janice Dean Harris, 85, of Pottstown, PA, peacefully went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, October 6, 2026, surrounded by the warmth and comfort of her loving family. Janice was the beloved wife of the late William "Bill" C. Brown who passed away in 1983.
Born in Durham, N.C. and raised in the area, Janice attended the Pottstown School District and was a devoted employee at Lucent Technologies (AT&T) for 27 years before retiring. She was a woman of deep and unwavering faith, dedicating her life to God and serving as a member of the Second Baptist Church. Janice possessed a vibrant spirit and a true zest for life. You could often find her on the dance floor getting her groove on, bringing joy to everyone around her. She was an avid reader and a passionate sports enthusiast who never missed a chance to cheer on her favorite football teams or watch exciting golf and tennis matches, especially Tiger Woods and the Williams sisters. She also thoroughly enjoyed her horror and crime shows. Above all else, Janice loved her family amongst everything who knew her as "Grannie"; they were her pride, her joy, and her greatest treasure.
Her beautiful legacy lives on through her surviving children: daughters, Lori Y. Brown of Allentown, PA, Cynthia A. Ruffing of Pottstown, PA, and Gina R. Hargrave of Pottstown, PA; and her son, Craig S. Brown (and his wife, Brandi L. Brown) of Reading, PA. She is also survived by her sister Barbara Jean Harris, 14 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren, and 3 great-great-grandchildren, along with a host of loving nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends who will miss her dearly.
She was also preceded in death by both parents, Herman Lee and Margaret "Maggie" (Day) Harris, grandson Shawn D. Evans (2010), great-grandson Wilfredo (2018), her cherished sisters, Mary L. Harris (2022) and Nancy L. Owens (2024).
A public visitation will be held on Friday, October 16, 2026, from 10:00 AM to 11:30 AM at Theo C. Auman Funeral Home, Inc., located at 247 Penn Street, Reading, PA 19601. A funeral service will follow promptly at 11:30 AM at the funeral home. Burial will take place at the Second Baptist Church Cemetery, located at 15 Old Douglass Drive, Douglassville, PA 19518.
