

Jannie Washington 77, of Reading passed away June 4, 2017 in The Reading Hospital with her family by her side. Jannie was predeceased by her first husband Albert Winns in 1989 and by her second husband Albert L Washington on October 21, 2013.
She was born in Kingstree, SC on August 15, 1939 a daughter of the late Jasper R and Alethia (Scott) McCrea. Jannie was a faithful member of Zion Baptist Church where she was a pastor's aide, she sang on the church choir, and served on the Missionary Ministry.
She was employed by the Reading Hospital as a surgical technician for 36 years retiring in 2001 and was one of the first African American women to work as a surgical technician and in plastic surgery. Jannie was a volunteer at Reading Hospital for over 13 years.
Jannie is survived by her son Albert and his wife Monika Winns of Leesport, son Robert McCrae of Idaho, and daughter Marcia Jones of Baltimore, MD., 6 grandchildren; Zadren, Charlotte, Zairen, Sandy, Matthew, and Alicia and 5 great grandchildren. Jannie is also survived by 7 brothers; Cicero, Willie, David, Lory, Myers, Jr., Clarence, Michael and 5 sisters; Louise, Betty, Jacqueline, Dolores, and Elizabeth. She was predeceased by 2 brothers, Herman and Jasper, and 7 sisters, Alberta, Emma, Carolese, Louise, Alma, Rachel, and Willease.
A Home Going Service will be celebrated on Saturday June 10, 2017 at 10am in Zion Baptist Church, 224 Washington St., Reading. Burial to follow in Forest Hills Memorial Park. A viewing will be Saturday from 9-10am in the church. Theo C Auman Funeral Home, Reading is honored to serve the family at this time.
