

Joan E. (Strausser) Beaver, 92, affectionately known by all as "Chickie", of Wyomissing, passed away on Wednesday, September 11, 2024. Born in Reading, PA on September 9, 1932, she was a daughter of the late Edwin and Beatrice (Wolf) Strausser.
Chickie was a graduate of Reading High School, class of 1950. She married the love of her life, Gary, on September 29, 1951, and they would have celebrated 73 years of marriage this year. In January 2020, however, Gary preceded her in death.
Chickie was a member of Advent Lutheran Church and had a deep love for both her family and music. She sang in multiple church choirs, the Muhlenberg Chorus, and with the Sweet Adelines, and even served as the choir director at Christ Lutheran Church in Glenside. In addition to being a Girl Scout leader and Cub Scout Den mother, Chickie generously gave her time as a volunteer at Reading Hospital.
She enjoyed playing volleyball, birdwatching, and solving crossword puzzles. After retiring from Boscov's West, she worked as a dental office receptionist while living in Elizabethtown, PA. Always known for her kindness and fierce devotion to her children and family, she never failed to offer a warm word to those around her.
Chickie's spirit will be carried on by her children: Diane, wife of Richard Hubler, Douglas, husband of Nancy Carrey-Beaver, Cathy, widow of William Westcott, and Christopher; six grandchildren: Erin, wife of Jon Brandon, Megan; wife of Toby Eberhart; Lisa, wife of Joseph Jacobs; David Carrey, husband of Juanita Grillo; Ben BeaverWolfe, husband of Cece BeaverWolfe; and Jesse Carrey-Chan, husband of Stephen Carrey-Chan. She also leaves behind her brother Jan Strausser and her sister Linda DeFrancesco; and 11 great-grandchildren: Sarah Brandon, Ryan Brandon, Matthew Brandon, and Jacob Brandon; Liora BeaverWolfe; Sarai Carrey-Grillo and Samara Carrey-Grillo; Will Eberhart and Violet Eberhart; and Griffin Jacobs and Ryder Jacobs, to cherish her memory.
In addition to her parents and beloved husband Gary, Chickie was preceded in death by her sister Carol Strausser.
The family will welcome relatives and friends on Saturday, September 21, 2024, from 10:00 to 10:30 AM at Auman's Inc., 390 W. Neversink Rd., Reading, PA 19606, followed by a time for memory sharing commencing at 10:30 AM. Inurnment will be private.
