He was the husband of Donna (Briscoe) Aulenbach.
Born in Reading, he was a son of the late John W. Aulenbach, Sr. and Pauline (Sheidy) Aulenbach.
He was a 1964 graduate of Muhlenberg High School and was a member of Harmony United Methodist Church, Morgantown.
John retired from the Department of Defense after serving at the Naval Aviation Supply Office in Philadelphia for 25 years. After retiring, he was employed as a bus driver at Eschelman Transportation, and later Brandywine Transportation.
A very loving man, John was very active with the Reading Fair having served as a former Board member. Until his death, he also served as the grounds and maintenance supervisor He was a lifetime member and former President of the Berks County Fire Police and was also a lifetime member of the Greenfields Fire Company. He also was active with the Mt. Pleasant, Berkshire Heights and Fleetwood Fire Companies. He was active on many levels in a 12 step program. He was a former Board member of the former Thunderbolts Drum and Baton Corp. He was also a former Hawk Mountain Scoutmaster. John proudly portrayed Santa Claus for many years for family and countless children and special needs children helping them all believe in the magic of Christmas.
In addition to his wife Donna, he is survived by a son, Corey Aulenbach and a brother Gene Aulenbach. Also surviving are his grandchildren, Ashley, Kayla and Michael Aulenbach and his great grandchildren Greysen and Jadyn. He was predeceased by his daughters, Tracey Aulenbach on May 22, 2015 and Charlene Ward on December 6, 2015.
