Born on June 30, 1936, in Fredericksburg, Virginia, he was the son of the late John Raymond Jones Sr. and Alice (Jacobson) Jones. In addition to his parents, Ray was welcomed into heaven by his wife, Marilu Jones, and his sister, Eleanor Perry.
Ray earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Civil Engineering from Virginia Tech University.
He proudly served his country in the United States Army Reserve, attaining the rank of Staff Sergeant. Ray enlisted on October 16, 1958, and was honorably discharged from the 10th Judge Advocate General (JAG) Corps Headquarters in Washington, D.C., on October 31, 1965.
A dedicated construction management engineer, Ray enjoyed a distinguished 52-year career. During that time, he worked for the United States Government, Rutgers University, and Hill Corporation.
A man of deep faith, Ray was a devoted member of West Lawn United Methodist Church and an active member of the Muhlenberg Lions Club.
In his free time, Ray enjoyed woodworking, especially using his scroll saw to create personalized name carvings for family and friends. He will be remembered for his intelligence, kindness, generosity, and willingness to lend a helping hand to anyone in need.
Ray's memory will be lovingly cherished by his children, Stephen Middleton and his wife, Maria; Mark Jones; and Amy Jones and her husband, Jason Poulton; his partner, Margene Heckman; his granddaughter, Christina Bandlow; his great-granddaughter, Isabelle; and a host of nieces and a nephew.
Family and friends are invited to gather at West Lawn United Methodist Church, 15 Woodside Ave., Reading, PA 19609, on Saturday, September 12, 2026, from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. A Celebration of Life will begin at 11:00 a.m., officiated by Pastor Chris Hardy.
