

Joseph William Owens, 89, of Muhlenberg Township, Pennsylvania passed away on Tuesday, December 7, 2021 with his loving family by his side. Joseph is survived by his wife, Pauline A. (Carew) Owens. He was born in Reading on June 4, 1932, the son of the late Joseph A. and Mary (Daley) Owens. Joe grew up on Pike Street and loved playing basketball at the 11th and Pike playground. Joe served in the Army and traveled Europe playing on his military bases’ basketball team. He was also a Penn State graduate. He enjoyed a successful management career at Western Electric (AT&T) retiring in 1984.
Joe was the co-founder with his wife of the Pol-O-Craft company. He was an outstanding speaker who captivated everyone with his stories, jokes and charm. He was a voracious consumer of Philadelphia sports news and loved discussing the Eagles, Phillies, and 76ers with his sons and brothers. Joe loved everything about golf and was a lifelong learner of the intricacies of the golf swing. The highlight of his year was his annual family golf trip to Myrtle Beach. If you ever met Joe Owens you immediately knew that his greatest love and joy was spending time with his wife and 7 children.
In addition to his wife, also surviving are his children; Kevin J. and his wife Robin (Gochnauer) Owens, Therese C. "Tracey" and her husband Arnold Weiss, Mark S. and his wife Rochelle (Huber) Owens, Mary Beth and her husband Randy Clark, Erin and her husband Mark Van Zeeland, Joseph D. Owens, Ryan T. Owens, 17 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren. Joseph was predeceased by his 2 brothers; Thomas P. Owens and John C. "Jack" Owens.
